Popcorn, snacks and smiles abound as Garden Valley Retirement Village unveiled their new in-house movie theater this week. “This creative initiative is one of several that the team at Garden Valley is pursuing in their ongoing effort to enhance the customer experience” said Bob Jones, President of Frontline Management.
The idea developed while Matt Stephenson, Administrator at Garden Valley, was shopping with his family at the Appliance and Furniture Mart in Garden City. “My son was trying to convince me that we needed to purchase a home theater for our house” Matt recalled with a smile, “but I had a better idea to bring the theater experience to the residents at Garden Valley!”
Using funds that have been charitably donated to Garden Valley, the team was able to transform a storage room into a state-of-the-art theater. The theater is equipped with an ultra HD clarity screen (with LED back lights and color effects), a 6 speaker, theater-quality surround sound system, projector, and 3D Samsung Blu-Ray Player (Wi-Fi capable with Netflix), and a complete desktop computer. The theater has seven recliner seats and additional space to accommodate up to seven wheelchairs. Red drapery, lighting, décor and paint have added for comfort and ambiance. “We would not have been able to provide all of this without the generosity of the owner at The Appliance & Furniture Mart, Danny Crain” said Matt. “His mother-in-law resided at Garden Valley years ago and he wanted to help give our residents the full theater experience. He gave us such an amazing discount!”
“We were contacted today by a representative from KHCA who happened to see a photo of our
theater and she has requested permission to share it to promote culture change in Kansas, Spotlight Garden Valley, and promote ideas among other providers” said Matt. “We’re excited to be able to share this with our residents, families, staff, and our partners in long term care.”
Matt and the staff and residents at Garden Valley Retirement Village would like to thank Danny Crain at the Appliance and Furniture Mart, the generosity of those that donated to Garden Valley’s Memorial Fund, and Frontline Management.
